Music Lessons

I began teaching in 2011 whilst still undertaking my degree when my former secondary school, Abbey College, Ramsey, and their local music service ASCA Music required a brass teacher. A colleague recommended me and I took the job there, commuting from London weekly. After completing my degree I worked with Every Child a Musician (ECaM) in Newham, Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES), and Redbridge Music Service from 2013 until 2017 when I moved to Oxfordshire.

During my time in Oxfordshire I taught primarily whole class brass lessons, small group tuition, and individual brass and piano lessons with Buckinghamshire Music Trust and was the trombone specialist instructor for the Wantage Silver Band organisation.

I have now been based in Hinckley, Leicestershire, for 2 years. Since living here I have held posts with Brass of the Saff (part of Drum and Brass) and Coventry Music but currently spend most of my time teaching brass, piano, and curricular music for Independent Music Solutions. I am also the low brass instructor for the Chris Moore Foundation Fund branch of Syston Band working with their youth and developing musicians.

I hold a LTCL in Instrumental Teaching and have experience teaching one-to-one, small group and whole class instrumental lessons.

I have students aged as young as 6 with my eldest being a retired gentleman and all lesson schemes are tailored to the needs of the students with an understanding that exams are not for everyone.

That said, I have a 100% exam pass rate with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, MTB, and Trinity exam boards.

I am available to teach all brass instruments: cornet, trumpet, tenor horn, baritone horn, euphonium, trombone and tuba as well as piano.

My specialism is in teaching low brass instruments (baritone, euphonium, trombone and tuba) which I teach to advanced levels but I have vast experience in teaching all other brass instruments, too. Piano tuition is available to beginners.

Lesson lengths are variable and I offer 20 minute, 30 minute, 45 minute and full hour length lessons with 30 minute lessons being the most popular across the board.

Fees from September 2021 are:

20 minutes: £12.50 per session

30 minutes: £17.50 per session

60 minutes: £35 per session

I have a teaching studio at my home in Hinckley but can discuss visits to teach in students homes. Lessons are available online either as one-off arrangements or if it suits the student better - drop me a message to enquire further.

I hold a current, clear DBS certificate.
